A beginners guide to fake tanning
Well i must say i have had my fair share of terrible tanning and Ive finally mastered how to get the perfect long lasted tan, so if you want to find out how to do so carry on reading :)
Theres a range of colour options mousses sprays lotions gels to choose from out there, what a time to be alive with so many ways to choose from to fake a golden glow!
HAIR REMOVAL
whatever you do, shave, wax etc the best thing to do is remove hair where you usually remove it about 2 days before, this will allow your skin to settle before applying the fake tan, ive found if you shave right after you've washed your tan off and you shave, it seems to take some of the tan off and we dont want that!
EXFOLIATE
To get an even tan you need a smooth base so this is an essential when tanning if you dont exfoliate, the dry bits on your body will catch more of the tan and end up darker which leads to patchiness, pay attention to areas which usually gets dry such as feet,knees,elbows and deffo face if you're going to tan it.
MOISTURISE
I usually moisturise my whole body most days anyway, but if you dont moisturise your body as much, then id say a couple of days before you're going to tan start prepping your body, so when you get out of the bath/shower moisturise your whole body and especially the bits that get dry quicker the same as when you exfoliate, feet,knees,elbows and face. This will ensure your skin is silky smooth and the base is prepped ready for the tan. I find this makes the tan last longer too.
SKIP USING DEODORANT
now i know this sounds gross but under your armpits is one of the places your tan doesn't last very long and applying tan whilst having deodorant on prevents the tan from adhering to your skin and you just end up with patchy armpits what really doesn't look flattering, trust me its happened to me!
GET A TANNING MIT
i mean i guess this is a pretty obvious one, but ive seen some people apply it with there hands thats a no go for me!! unless its a wash off tan its really not ok to apply tan with your hands unless you want brown/orange hands! Tanning mits are really cheap to buy and they usually come with a rubber glove too, you should get a tanning mit what comes with a glove because although you're applying the tan with the mit on it still seaps through and leaves you with brown hands.
WHEN SHOULD I APPLY IT?
the best time to apply your tan is on the night time, fake tan usually tans about 6 hours to develop properly so by applying it on the night allows you to sleep with the tan on, this is just a better idea than just applying it in the morning and waiting 6 hours for it develop then wash it off, its better to leave it on for longer than it says. I always find i have better results when i wash it off.
PATIENCE
patience is a virtue! allow your tan to fully dry before getting dressed, if you get dressed whilst your tans still wet it can lead to patchiness and its so uncomfortable, however when it is dry id suggest putting something loose on like some shorts and a baggy top. This also lets your skin breathe.
HOW CAN I KEEP MY TAN FOR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE?
well eventually your tans going to wear off but the best way to maintain your tan is moisturising. Fake tan drys your skin out so moisturising will keep your skin fresh and hydrated.
HOW CAN I PREVENT MY TAN FROM FADING PATCHY?
you cant fully prevent this from happening but to try and get rid of your tan, exfoliate every couple of days this will allow the tan to fade evenly.
